Tips, Tricks & Hacks to Boost Internet Speed

The map below is colored accordingly. As you can see, if you are in the US, the fastest public resolver is an OpenDNS resolver. But, if you’re in Malaysia, it’s probably Google. Or, if you're in Europe, it'll be Dyn.

The results shown are the average over a 24-hour period of latency measured to each resolver.

Was your internet connection speed provided by your local Internet Service Provider(ISP) too slow? 

Although you have paid quite expensive to get the best internet connection speed. Sometimes, ISP put some limitation when you have exceed the quota of your internet subscription or maybe the ISP heavy traffic itself on peak hours with large file dowloaded by every subscribed user which can make your internet terribly slow.

Public DNS is a free, global Domain Name System (DNS) resolution service, that you can use as an alternative to your current DNS provider. Using Public DNS can speed up your browsing experience, improve your security and get the results you expect with absolutely no redirection.

Here, I will give you a tips, tricks & hacks of how to boost your internet speed by using the Top Public DNS Resolver;

1) Click Start button.

2) Search for " View Network Connection" at search bar then click on it.

3) Right-click on the internet connetion type you using (LAN / Wireless), then select Properties like below.


4) Connection Properties dialog will popup like below, select Internet Protocal Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click Properties button.

 
5) Internet Protocol Version 4 Properties dialog will popup, leave the "Obtain an IP address automatically" checked and then select the "Use the following DNS server addresses" and insert the address as below.


The public DNS resolver to be used will be difference, refer the fastest Public DNS Resolver for your country on the Map figure above. Then insert the DNS Server Address, refer Public DNS Address figure below.


6) Click OK on both "Internet Protocol Version 4 & Connection Properties" dialog.


You are DONE! Now you have boost internet speed to the maximum instead your slow ISP speed.

Create USB Bootable Flash Drive with Software


1) Download WinToFlash. The software is still in BETA phase so it is possible that it has some bugs.

2) Extract the downloaded WinToFlash zip file to any folder on your desktop.

3) Open the folder and run WinToFlash.exe by double clicking on it.

4) Click Next, Tick "I accept EULA", click Next and Next again. Wait for the software to load some ads, click Next and Next again.

5) A Welcome Screen like one in the image below will show up.

 

6) Click on the Big Green Tick. The welcome screen will turn translucent and WinToFlash wizard will open.

 

7) Click Next. On Windows File path entry box, click Select button and select the location of your Windows disk, or the folder containing the Windows setup files and click OK.

8) On USB Drive path entry box, click Select button and select your USB flash drive’s location and click OK.

9) Click Next button. In the dialog box, Tick "I accepted the license agreement" and click Continue.

10) A warning message will be displayed saying that “Formatting will erase all data on the disk”. Click OK on the message.

11) WinToFlash will show a window with a Progress Bar like the one in the image below.

 

12) After the progress bar reaches the end, press Next and then press Exit. A notification to update WinToFlash might be shown, click No to close it.


You are DONE! You now have a bootable pendrive that can be used to install Windows.


Installation Requirements
  • An empty flash drive with a storage capacity of 1GB for Windows XP and 3GB for Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.
  • Windows installation disk or Windows installation files stored somewhere on your computer.

Access Blocked Website with Command Prompt


1. Open Command Prompt dialog.

2. Type: ping [web address to access], example: ping www.alquds.co.uk

3. Copy the IP Address of the site from the ping result, refer image above: 62.212.66.197

4. Paste the IP Address to your Web Browser(safari/ chrome/ internet explorer/ firefox), and it will looks like this: http://62.212.66.197

5. Press ENTER.


You are DONE! You should now bypass the blocker and get access to the blocked website.

Set New Tab Page on Internet Explorer 10

By default, clicking the New Tab icon (or pressing Ctrl-T) in Internet Explorer 10 opens your homepage. Some users prefer a new tab page with thumbnails for their "most frequent visited sites", which is the default behaviour for previous version of Internet Explore 8 and downwards.


However, this setting got changed on IE9 to IE10 versions. Here, how to set the new tab page back to those "most frequent visited site" thumbnails as you prefered;

1. Open Internet Explorer, click the Tools icon (or press Alt-X), and then click Internet Options

2. In the General tab, find the Tabs section, then click the Tabs button within that section. 


3. Midway down that Tabbed Browsing Settings dialog, there is an option called “When a new tab is opened, open:”, and click the Pull-down menu below it then choose The new tab page.


4. Click OK at the bottom of the Tabbed Browsing Settings dialog and at the Internet Options dialog.


You are DONE! Internet Explorer should open new tabs with those “most frequent visited site” thumbnails.
